Course Name: Chinese 101: Elementary Businesses Chinese
Materials: Business Chinese Conversation [Elementary], book 1, published by Beijing Language and University Press. Supplemental materials will be distributed by the instructor.
Teaching Hours: 4 hours (per unit) - 26 units = 104 hours
Course Description and Objectives:
Elementary Business Chinese Level 1 is designed for students who wish to begin learning Chinese. This course will help the student become familiar with the foundation of the Chinese language and will help develop the four basic language skills of reading, writing, aural comprehension, and speaking. By the end of the course the student will be able to make simple statements, and ask and answer a variety of questions. Also, the student will have begun developing a firm foundation in vocabulary, pronunciation and sentence structures. Students will learn how to write simple sentences that are grammatically correct and to express themselves in simple Chinese. In this level, students will learn approximately 677 new words and characters; furthermore, students will master the Chinese pinyin system and Chinese pronunciation, thus laying a firm foundation for all following courses.

Course Description and Objectives:
Elementary Business Chinese Level 2 is designed for students who have completed Elementary Business Chinese Level 1. This course will build on the lessons in Level 1 by adding new topics, increasing vocabulary and increasing the number of grammatical structures. It develops the four basic language skills of reading, writing, aural comprehension, and speaking with an emphasis on business. By the end of the course the student will be able to handle polite conversation in social situations, daily necessities as well as handle disputes and bargaining. In this level, students will learn approximately 997 new words and characters.

Course Description and Objectives:
Advanced Businesses Chinese Level 1 is designed for students who have completed Intermediate Businesses Chinese Level 2. This course will build on the lessons in the intermediate levels by adding new topics, increasing vocabulary and increasing the number of grammatical structures. It develops the four basic language skills of reading, writing, aural comprehension, and speaking. This level involves economic history and how it affects current attitudes and cultural norms in China. Chinese idioms, which are commonly used in China, are used in many of the lessons. By the end of this course, students will be able to apply culture knowledge correctly in business activities. They will be able to distinguish the difference between near-synonyms and use them in business and social situations. In this level, students will learn approximately 1018 new words and characters.
